Physiological and Growth Characteristics of Tomato Seedlings in Response to Low Root-zone Temperature

نویسندگان

چکیده

Root-zone temperature (RZT) is an indispensable environmental factor for the proper growth and development of plants. Low RZT one major limitations agricultural production during cold seasons. In this study, physiological responses tomato seedlings to low stress (10 °C) its recovery were investigated with hydroponic cultivation in artificial climate-controlled chamber. The reaction was evaluated by combining various indexes, including photosynthesis, chlorophyll fluorescence, root activity, hydrogen peroxide, antioxidants. results showed that adversely affected response limited root-source water mineral elements, supply shoot metabolism, leaf fluorescence negatively influenced, which led inhibited area biomass accumulation. Hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O ), malondialdehyde (MDA), proline accumulated time stress. When restored normal (∼20 °C), parameters recovered a certain degree, although most not at similar level control. crop seasons, it necessary improve achieve high quality yield production.

Growth and physiological responses of neotropical mangrove seedlings to root zone hypoxia.

Seedlings of Rhizophora mangle L., Avicennia germinans (L.) Stearn., and Laguncularia racemosa (L.) Gaertn. f. were cultured in aerated or N(2)-purged solution for 12 weeks to assess their relative responses to low oxygen tensions. All three species responded to low oxygen treatment by modifying physiological and morphological patterns to decrease carbon loss by root respiration. However, the e...

Stomatal Movement in Response to Root Zone Temperature in Purple Heart (Tradescantia pallida)

The effects of root temperatures (25, 35 and 45°C) and temperature duration (30, 60 and 90 min) on net photosynthesis rate, stomatal conductance and transpiration rate in Tradescantia pallida were investigated. The experiment was conducted under controlled conditions with factorial arrangement based on a completely randomized design (CRD) and four replications. Result showed that, net photosynt...

Growth, gas exchange, and root respiration of Quercus rubra seedlings exposed to low root zone temperatures in solution culture

Spring planting is standard operational practice in the Central Hardwood Region, though little is known about potential impacts of low root temperature (RT) common during spring on establishment success of temperate deciduous forest tree species. The effects of low RT on growth, gas exchange, and root respiration following winter dormancy were studied in 1-year-old northern red oak (Quercus rub...

Evaluation of different growth media for tomato seedlings to optimize production and water use

ABSTRACT- Soilless cultivation systems are used to attain higher performance, improve crop quality, conserve water and land, and protect the environment better. This study has attempted to use some agricultural wastes and organic matter, and management practices to optimize water holding capacity of cultural media, which are suitable for the growth of tomato seedlings (Solanum lycopersicum.). F...
